Thank you all for checking out our new single “Drive The Nail” and helping us get into the top 10 on the Reverbnation Local Charts. Hope you all liked it. I know we love it and we especially love the way the vocals were performed, recorded, and mixed.

To record the vocals, we tried a few different microphones. Our first choice was the Neumann TLM 103 large diaphragm condenser microphone. Although it’s a great sounding microphone, not every microphone is the perfect fit for its singer and style of music. It has a nice shine to it, but we wanted something that would sound in your face.

The next option was get a hold of a Shure SM7B after hearing many great things about it, such as Michael Jackson using it on the Thriller album, how perfect it is for loud, aggressive vocals, and seeing it on television and radio broadcasting. My decision was clear to go out and purchase one immediately.

Finally, after getting the Shure SM7B , we set up a vocal session and put it to the test. After a great performance from Craig, it was obvious, this microphone was a better fit for his vocals and our style of music. It sounded upfront and very clear. We immediately loved the sound and this became our go to microphone of choice. We used it on most of the vocal tracks for the album.

If you don’t already have this microphone, do yourself a favor and add this to your microphone collection. This dynamic mic is excellent, and goes for about 350 dollars. You won’t regret it.
